Dear
Neighbors,
Summer is
winding down, but City Council is starting back up this week. We
encourage everyone to read what's on the agenda for Council and let
us know your opinions. The link to view all City Council and public
meeting agendas is to the left.
District 10's
Oak Park/Northwood neighborhood made the news recently as they had
to deal with the growing pains of infrastructure development.
Google Fiber has begun their roll out in San Antonio with Oak
Park/Northwood being the first District 10 neighborhood. Other
neighborhoods will soon experience construction as fiber is being
installed underground. Our office is in contact with Google Fiber's
community liaisons, Transportation and Capital Improvements, and
the City Manager's Office to spread the word about upcoming
construction. We understand that the City-wide roll out will span
four years. As with any utility construction project in your
area, you can always call our office for assistance.
School is
starting up soon and so are the back-to-school events. If your
group is hosting a back-to-school supply drive, backpack giveaway,
or other community event, let us know so we can help promote it.
Additionally, the Texas Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend, August
5-7th. Those shopping for school supplies, footwear and clothing
priced under $100 will be exempt from paying sales tax on those
items.
There is no
time like the present to register to vote for the November
election. If you missed the window to register for the primaries
last Spring, I urge you to register now to cast a ballot in
November. You can read more about registering to vote in Bexar
County here.
Our next
District 10 Community Meeting is August 15th, 7PM, at the Tool
Yard. Spread the word, invite your neighbors, and join us as we
update the district on the latest issues.
Thank you for
staying actively involved in our community and for your strong
support of District 10.
Sincerely,
Mike Gallagher
City Councilman
District 10

Get
Involved: SA Corridors Neighborhood Advisory Committee
SA Corridors is a new initiative
designed to be a collaborative, data-driven process with the City and
VIA Metropolitan Transit. With input from the community, SA Corridors
hopes to lay out a vision for the future of San Antonio's transit
corridors.
We
need to appoint three (3) District 10 residents to participate on
this committee.
Participants in the NAC will be
asked to participate in 1-2 meetings and a half-day hands-on
charrette. They will receive periodic updates on how the project is
progressing, and will be asked to weigh in at key decision
points. They may also be asked to attend or help build
attendance at public events and focus groups. Ideal participants will
be those who are actively engaged in their neighborhoods and
communities and have exhibited a willingness to engage in thoughtful
collaboration with their neighbors as well as with city staff.
Please let us
know if you would like to be considered for appointment by August
9th, 2016. You will need to include your preferred contact information,
a brief description of your involvement with neighborhood or
community programs, and why you would like to participate on this
committee. You can reply to this newsletter or email us directly at District10@sanantonio.gov.

Tuttle
Power Plant Demolition
CPS has begun the final phase of
the Tuttle Power Plant demolition project. From July-December 2016,
neighbors of the Tuttle Power Plant can expect to hear some noise and
construction traffic at the entrance along Perrin Beitel. Please
note: no explosives are being used to demolish the plant, and
dust-suppression measures are in place.
To address traffic concerns, CPS
has shared the following:
- All
contractor vehicles carrying personnel will enter/exit through
the North Gate at 9911 Perrin Beitel Rd.
- All
demolition traffic will exit by making a right turn only onto
Perrin Beitel Rd.
- Demolition
trucks will be scheduled so that high traffic times are not
interrupted.
- During
delivery of heavy equipment, flagmen wearing high-visibility
vests and TxDOT approved flags will be used to assist trucks
entering and exiting the property.
CPS has also established a hotline
that provides weekly updates on the project. You can call (210)
353-3366, or email tuttledemo@cpsenergy.com.
