Dear
Neighbors,
In 2008, San
Antonio set its early voting record with an impressive 375,784
voters. I am so proud that a combined 436,731 early voters in Bexar
County "pulled the lever", officially breaking the
eight-year record. If you did not make it to a polling site early,
tomorrow is the big day. Grab a friend and please vote.
Remember that
on Election Day, you can only vote inside your precinct listed on
your voter registration card. To check your registration and view a
sample ballot, click here.
Last Thursday,
I shared the podium with Deputy City Manager, Peter Zanoni, and
Mayor Taylor at a press conference to announce that applications
for the 2017 Northeast Corridor (NEC) Enhancement Matching Grant
Program are open. Business owners and operators along the corridor
are encouraged to apply for these matching funds to improve
landscaping, façade and signage. This is a great opportunity to
continue our revitalization efforts along Perrin Beitel and
Nacogdoches. If you are interested or know of someone who might be,
visit the Northeast
Corridor website for more information. Applications will
close January 6, 2017.
As the holiday
season begins, please take some time to plan your traveling. Not
only do our highways, especially I-35, get crowded, but the
airports will as well. The hustle and bustle during this time of
the year can absorb the best of us. But we want you to enjoy the
holidays, and travel safely. Scroll down to check out our latest
PSA on holiday travel!
In other
airport news, on Monday, October 31, Runway 04/22 reopened. The
closure of Runway 04/22 for the past 7 months allowed construction
on the Terminal Area Taxiways project. All runways and taxiways
will be open until January 2017 when they plan on closing Runway
12R/30L for three months.
Some residents
may experience increased noise levels as flights utilize the new
and improved Runway 04/22. Please call the Noise Complaint Hotline
at 210-207-3471 with any aviation-related noise concerns.
Additional information related to the aviation department's noise
program can be found online. Be
on the lookout for more information on the next closure coming
soon.
Thank you for staying actively involved in our community and for
your strong support of District 10.
Sincerely,
Mike Gallagher
City Councilman District 10

2017 NEC
Enhancement Matching Grant Program Now Open for Business
The 2017 Northeast Corridor (NEC)
Enhancement Matching Grant program is now available for business
owners and operators along the Northeast Corridor. District 10
Councilman Mike Gallagher, along with Mayor Ivy R. Taylor and Deputy
City Manager Peter Zanoni, announced the start of the new grant cycle
at City Hall on Thursday. Executive leadership, city staff, and
the communities in and around the NEC are proud to see the
continuation of the effort to revitalize Nacogdoches and Perrin
Beitel Roads.
Bridgett White, Director of the Department
of Planning and Community Development commented, "The City of
San Antonio is committed to preserving and updating established
communities. This grant program has proven to be successful in
helping small business owners along the Northeast Corridor. We look
forward to reviewing the new round of applications and seeing what
new improvements to expect in the NEC."
The NEC Enhancement Matching Grant
Program assists owners and tenants of commercial properties within
the designated NEC boundary with façade, landscape and signage
improvements to their businesses. The City of San Antonio reimburses
grantees 50% of the total cost of eligible improvement projects up to
$27,000. This is the third year of the program with $100,000 in total
grants to be awarded.
Last year, nine businesses and
their projects were chosen as grant recipients. Proposed projects
were reviewed by the NEC Steering Committee and evaluated based on
completeness of the application, the potential for visual impact,
consistency with the NEC Revitalization Plan and Enhancement Grant
design guidelines, and the quality of the proposed project.
Applications will be accepted until
Friday, January 6, 2017. Two information sessions will be held for
those who may be interested in applying or would like more
information on the grant process:
- Monday,
November 14th
from 7-8 PM at the Tool Yard/Northeast Service Center, 10302
Tool Yard, San Antonio, TX 78233
- Wednesday,
December 7th
from NOON-1 PM at the Department of Planning and Community
Development, 1400 S. Flores St., San Antonio, TX 78204
Councilman Gallagher stated,
"Any business owner or operator in the area is welcome and
encouraged to become a part of this Improvement Partnership. We
created the grant program to be a resource to help businesses
succeed. Revitalization programs are so important to a City's success
and it sends the message that the City is paying attention. I am
proud to see this effort continuing in our Northeast Corridor."

Eden
Holiday Marketplace
Saturday,
November 12, 10AM - 3PM
FREE and open to the public, this
season's holiday gifts will dazzle you like never before during
Eden's 2016 Holiday Marketplace! Over 40 vendors (from A to Z)
will be set up to offer a fun shopping opportunity to purchase unique
gifts for those challenging names on your gift list. Come enjoy
this open air market and shop for the following: Avon skin
care; handmade crafts such as pottery, pillows, blankets,
books, crosses, hats, birdfeeders, wind chimes, seasonal wreaths,
homemade jams, Pampered Chef, Premier Jewelry, Silpada Sterling
Silver, Tupperware, Younique Skin Care and ZAZ yard art (we did
say A-Z). There will also be a food truck and Pinks
Popcorn on site to satisfy those "shop 'til you drop"
hunger flashes!
The Marketplace is a semi-annual
fundraising event sponsored by the Eden Homeowners'
Association. Proceeds received from vendors for rental space of
assigned booth space are vital income for the HOA to sustain rising
costs for maintenance of this area. So, if you are an
Eden resident -- and you are not a member of the HOA -- we hope you
will take this opportunity to stop by the Eden HOA booth and begin
your membership. If you are already a member, we
extend a heartfelt thank you, and invite you to drop by the booth and
say hello to the volunteers who give so much of their time and
talents to help make events such as Marketplace a resounding success.
There are still a few spaces open for interested vendors. For
additional information, please contact event coordinator, Melva
Rodriquez, 210-215-0539. Follow Edennews247.com for
