District 10 Update, 31 March 2017

COMMUNITY NEWS
Brought to you by Mike Gallagher, District 10

                                                                                               March 31st, 2017

The District 10 Candidate Forum sponsored by the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance was almost two weeks ago, and since then several other neighborhoods in District 10 have been hosting their own forums. I encourage you all to reach out to your neighborhood association and ask if a forum with the candidates is planned. This is a tremendous opportunity to ask questions, listen to platforms, and meet those campaigning to be your representative.

If you are interested in a listing of the District 10, Mayoral, or other districts' candidates, please visit http://www.sanantonio.gov/candidate-listing. Next month on Monday, April 17th, the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance will be hosting a Mayoral Candidate Forum. It will be at the Tool Yard again at 6:30 PM. Please do your best to join us. This can be a crucial step in determining which candidate you wish to support on May 6th.

Last newsletter, I mentioned our Residential Short-Term Rental policy was heading to Governance committee. This initiative will continue through the committee process, and we are working to schedule even more public meetings to obtain feedback. We have had two major stakeholder meetings to discuss hopes and concerns for this project, the future of short-term rental businesses, like AirBNB, and how we can protect the industry, our City, and most importantly the neighborhoods. We always want to hear from our constituents on policy initiatives, so if you have some information or a recommendation, feels free to call or send an email to district10@sanantonio.gov.

I want to extend my gratitude to the communities and folks who have worked and continue to do so, helping their neighborhoods recover from the February tornadoes. District 10 was hit hard, but we are truly lucky to live in a place where people rally together to support each other. The City of San Antonio did a tremendous job in the aftermath, and special thanks goes out to our Parks and Recreation Department for their Tree Recovery Initiative. I loved seeing the crowds of people out to retrieve their replacement trees! If you were unable to attend one of the on-site events, please contact Parks at 207-8480 for additional information. Keep up the good work, folks.

In other news, we have hired a new full-time person to be our lead with constituent services and neighborhood engagement. Please join me in welcoming Landry Stafford to our team. She is a District 10 resident and Trinity University graduate-a great combination! We are excited to have her on board.

Activities across the City will only continue to ramp up over the coming months. Please be safe and smart when participating in these great festivities, especially next month's Fiesta. And as always, we are so proud of our District's continued commitment to starting and maintaining strong neighborhoods. It is because of you that District 10 remains the best place to live, work, and play.

Thank you for staying actively involved in our community and for your strong support of District 10.
