Our community will be thrilled once it is complete in Fall 2015. Be sure to drive down Thousand Oaks and Scarsdale to see its progress.     SAFD Reminds You to Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries   Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8. As we change our clocks this weekend and "spring forward," the San Antonio Fire Department would like you to keep the following safety tips in mind:                 Change the batteries in your smoke detectors. They are your early warning device for a fire in your home.   Test smoke alarms monthly and make sure everyone in your home knows the sound it makes.   Install and maintain smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors according to the manufacturer's instructions.   Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths in 2005-2009 resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.   When smoke alarms fail to operate, it is usually because batteries are missing, disconnected or dead. Almost one-quarter of smoke alarm failures are due to dead batteries. DID YOU KNOW?   The San Antonio Fire Department has installed more than 10,000 free smoke detectors in homes throughout the city?  These tiny devices are your first line of defense should a fire occur in your home.  Do you need one?  Call the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1 and request yours today.  The life you save may be someone you love.               Help Rooney find a loving home!   Rooney is an enthusiastic and friendly boy who is eager to approach anyone just so he can be petted. Department of Transportation and Capital Improvements

February 12, 2015

Dear Resident:

The City of San Antonio’s Department of Transportation and Capital Improvements will be working to improve Bretton Ridge from Applewood to Perrin Beitel. The project will consist of the installation of concrete curb, sidewalk,  and driveways along both sides of Perrin Beitel.

Contract crews are scheduled to begin construction on or around February 19, 2015 and the work is estimated to continue until May 29, 2015. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation while these improvements are in progress. We will work diligently to restore the street to full

operational status as soon as possible. While improvements are underway, here is some helpful

information about the improvement project to assist you:

 

Vehicles should not be parked on the street from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Unfortunately, if vehicles are in the path of construction improvements and no one is available to move it, it will be towed to one of
these following streets in your area:

 Rock Croft, Garden Quarter Traffic detour barricades and signs will be provided to guide traffic through the construction
improvement area, as needed.

Existing rock/masonry mailboxes located in the proposed sidewalk alignment will be removed

from the project site and replaced with a decorative mailbox with a style name of Gibraltar and

Model #PED0000B. Other mailboxes will be replaced with a standard wooden post mailbox.

City of San Antonio Ordinance 29-11 states sidewalks shall be free on any hazards or obstructions;

rock/masonry mailboxes are considered to be obstructions to free passage.

 

Landscape, shrubbery, and trees present in the City owned ROW located in the proposed sidewalk

alignment will be removed by the contractor and not replaced.

 It will be the property owner’s responsibility to remove and transplant any shrubbery they wish to keep. The City or Contractor does not guarantee transplanted shrubbery & landscape will survive.

 

According to San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and Texas Commission on Environment Quality

(TCEQ) regulations, all properties with irrigation systems must have a working back flow prevention

system on their irrigation line. Irrigation systems that are encountered and impacted during sidewalk
construction will be relocated and put back in service if the property has a working backflow

preventer.

For properties that do not have a working back flow prevention system, the sprinkler heads impacted will be cut and capped behind the new sidewalk.

In the event of adverse weather, environmental conditions, unforeseen equipment issues, or schedule

conflicts, improvements on your street will likely be delayed or rescheduled, as soon as conditionspermit. The construction dates provided above are tentative and may vary.



The contractor for this project is Austin Constructors, LLC.  The on-site inspector will be Roy Stout (LAN, Inc.).

Our goal is to seek input from the public on changes to update the rules that govern our city that would ultimately require voter approval. One proposal that my office brought forward is Council pay. The Commission has no substantive disagreements on this issue and has since recommended that council members receive the median household income amount of $45,755 and $65,755 for the mayor. Although I have clearly stated that I will not personally receive this pay, I strongly recommend it for future Council members.    The Commission seeks to have amendment language approved for the ballot by the end of this month. In addition, they will call for a special election to vote on these amendments in May. Public meetings are being held every Wednesday and I highly encourage each of you to either attend to speak before Council or submit input on these amendments here. Last week, I was in Washington DC participating in the annual SA to DC trip. We had several meetings to inform members of Congress of the City's Federal priorities. It is my hope that we can obtain more federal funding for transportation and infrastructure so we do not have to rely on toll roads to ease congestion.
