Dear Neighborhood Leaders and Residents: In our continued community partnerships, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance (NNA) would like to invite you to our regularly scheduled May 16th community meeting at the North East Service Center. Residents are encouraged to bring their latest SAWS statement as members of the SAWS Customer Service team will be on hand to assist with any issues or concerns you have with your bill.  SAWS will be set up in the room adjacent to the meeting room for the NAA meeting.  I encourage all neighborhood leaders to forward this message to your respective memberships. SA City Code Department's Code Connection May 2016

Code Enforcement Section, Development Services Department Roof Repair and Permits Recent storms in San Antonio have caused considerable roof damage to many of our homes, leading to many re-roof projects.  Before you begin these repair projects, keep in mind that your roof contractor is required to obtain a City permit to re-cover or fully replace your roof. Why is it necessary to get a permit? To safeguard the safety of your family and ensure your project follows the City’s building codes To ensure that your home roof contractor is properly registered and licensed with the City of San Antonio, properly pulls City building permits and has passed the required criminal background check It’s the law.  Work without the proper permit can result in citations ranging from $300 to $1,000 to the contractor and/or homeowner The City’s Code Enforcement can issue a “Stop” work order to cease all work until a permit is issued causing an unnecessary delay to your repair project.  A double fee penalty will also apply for starting the work before acquiring your permit. When selling your home, you generally need to show the work was done with the proper permit The cost of a home re-roof permit is $26.50 and is typically obtained directly by your roofing contractor.  More information on obtaining a permit is available here.  You can check if the contractor you are hiring is properly registered with the City through our website.    For more information, don’t hesitate to call us at (210) 207-1111.
