District 10 Community Meeting

August 15th, 7PM, at the Tool Yard

Want to publicize your neighborhood event?

If so, please send an e-mail to Rebecca Podowski to make a request to post on our Facebook page!

July 20th, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to all who were able to attend the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance meeting this week. I was pleased to see this group continue with a strong presence during the vacationing months. As a reminder, the next community meeting will be our District 10 Meeting on August 15th, 2016, at 7PM at the Tool Yard.

Once City Council resumes in August, we can expect to receive public meeting schedules for the 2017 Bond Program and the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget. I encourage all of you to attend these meetings and speak up for District 10.

We have included in this edition information about the Tuttle Power Plant demolition. Residents in the area can expect to see demolition trucks entering and exiting along Perrin Beitel. CPS has indicated they are scheduling trucks to drive during non-peak traffic hours, and will be using cones and flagmen to guide traffic. CPS has also set up a hotline and email address for weekly updates on the demolition project.

We have also included information on the City's Sidewalk Cost-Sharing Program, where the City and residents share the cost of installing or replacing sidewalks. Residents are to call 311 to request to be a part of this program. The Transportation and Capital Improvements department will provide you with a quote indicating your portion of the cost, and you can determine if you wish to move forward.

The Northeast Corridor Quarterly Business Development Meeting is on July 29th. If you are thinking about starting a business and want to learn more about securing capital, I encourage you to attend. There will be presentations by traditional and non-traditional lenders who will be available for questions afterwards. Breakfast will be provided.

Thank you for staying actively involved in our community and for your strong support of District 10.

Sincerely,

Mike Gallagher
City Councilman District 10

 Tuttle Power Plant Demolition

CPS has begun the final phase of the Tuttle Power Plant demolition project. From July-December 2016, neighbors of the Tuttle Power Plant can expect to hear some noise and construction traffic at the entrance along Perrin Beitel. Please note: no explosives are being used to demolish the plant, and dust-suppression measures are in place.

To address traffic concerns, CPS has shared the following:
  • All contractor vehicles carrying personnel will enter/exit through the North Gate at 9911 Perrin Beitel Rd.
  • All demolition traffic will exit by making a right turn only onto Perrin Beitel Rd.
  • Demolition trucks will be scheduled so that high traffic times are not interrupted.
  • During delivery of heavy equipment, flagmen wearing high-visibility vests and TxDOT approved flags will be used to assist trucks entering and exiting the property.
CPS has also established a hotline that provides weekly updates on the project. You can call (210) 353-3366, or email tuttledemo@cpsenergy.com.

The City of San Antonio Sidewalk Cost Sharing Program is a voluntary program where owner-occupants and the City of San Antonio share in the cost of installing or replacing sidewalks. For FY 2016 (October 1, 2015 - Sept 30, 2016), the City has $250,000 available that can be used towards repairing sidewalks and curbs along residential properties.

COST: The cost share that residents are required to provide will range from 30-50% of the cost to replace the sidewalk. The share that residents need to provide will depend on their residential location. If the property is located in a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) area, as designated by the Federal Government, residents may qualify for the City paying 70% of the total cost of repair.

Measure the existing linear feet of sidewalk along your property line, then call 311 (210-207-6000) to determine the cost sharing rate. 311 will submit all service requests to Transportation & Capital Improvements for investigation and a formal cost estimate.
