May is Building Safety Month
May is Building Safety Month. This year's theme is Building Codes Save Lives. Like in the years' past, the Development Services Department (DSD) supports the International Code Council (ICC) with observing this month-long campaign.

All communities need building codes to protect their citizens from disasters like fires and structural collapses. As you may know, DSD is on schedule to present the 2018 ICC building codes for City Council consideration in June.

In line with Building Safety Month, our inspectors, code enforcement officers and customer advocate representatives participated in various activities throughout the city, engaging the community both in the office and at neighborhood association meetings. At the events, DSD staff built relationships with the community, while providing brief presentations on code violations, permits and building safety.

In the know... BuildSA Survey Feedback
We appreciate your feedback and find it invaluable! As you may remember, we sent out a survey a few weeks ago asking for your input on preferred training methods for our new Land Development online system (BuildSA). The feedback you provided was extremely insightful.

Our goal is to make sure we incorporate your survey requests into our training plan, ensuring a smooth transition for our valued customers.

Your responses will not only help guide us in preparing the training methods that will best fit your needs, they also provide an understanding of the features that are most important to you.

Congratulations to our new PCTAC Appointments

Our new appointments are listed below:

Thank you to all who applied for PCTAC, and a sincere welcome to our new members!

Building Permits and Inspection Requirements
Generally, warmer weather leads to more construction of residential decks, fences, additions and accessory sheds.  In line with Building Safety Month, be sure to know what permits and inspections are needed for your project, and do a contractor search to ensure they are licensed.
