Howdy Neighbors,

Thank you to all who attended our District 10 Community Meeting last night. I know that summer is an especially busy time for everyone, and I appreciate you all participating in last night's meeting. We heard updates from David McCary, Director of Solid Waste Management, Isabel Ramos-Lebron, Wellness Education Manager of the San Antonio Food Bank, Doug Thomas, Representative (Lion) from the Texas Lions Camp and Phil Bakke, the District 10 Representative on the Alamo Citizen Advisory Committee.

Mr. Bakke shared information about the upcoming public meetings regarding the Alamo Interpretive Plan. If you would like to be a part of the proposed site plan and design strategies for the Alamo, attend these meetings. Your input matters. Information regarding these meetings can be found below.

As a friendly reminder, we have monthly community meetings at the Tool Yard on the third Monday of every month at 7 PM (unless it falls on a holiday). These meetings alternate hosting duties between the District 10 Office and the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance. These meetings are open to all.

This Thursday, June 21st, is the International Day of Yoga and District 10 is celebrating by hosting two free yoga classes in the district. These classes will be held at the Julia Yates Semmes Branch Library and the Northeast Senior Center. These classes are open to all skill levels, but you must register to attend. To register for the class at the Julia Yates Semmes Branch Library, click here. To register for the class a the Northeast Senior Center, click here.

We are partnering with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to bring you all a free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Training session on July 9th. This event will take place at the Thousand Oaks Branch Library from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Space for this event is limited, so we ask that you register here if you wish to attend.

SAWS has announced that Stage 2 drought restrictions are in place. Watering with an irrigation system is only allowed once a week between 7-11 a.m. or  7-11 p.m. and is determined by the last digit of your address. The schedule is as follows: Addresses ending in a 0 or 1 can water on Monday, 2 or 3 on Tuesday, 4 or 5 on Wednesday, 6 or 7 on Thursday, 8 or 9 on Friday. Hand watering is allowed at any time. For more information, click here.

As some of you may know, Council will be on break in July. However, both staff and myself will be available to you.

As always, thank you for being active community members and leaders here in District 10, and do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of any assistance to you.

- Clayton

Potholes Help requested

Thank you for your feedback! Gracias

THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING YOUR INPUT REGARDING POTHOLES IN SAN ANTONIO!

The City’s Pothole Repair Program, managed by the Transportation & Capital Improvements Department, (TCI) has gone through many changes over the last couple of years that has led to improvements in customer service, increased productivity, and reduced operational costs. While we are still working to drive process changes and refinements, the changes made to date are note-worthy.

In Fiscal Year 2017 (October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017), our Pothole Patrol crews repaired over 75,000 potholes, a 155% increase from 2015! However, of the 75,000 potholes reported in Fiscal Year 2017, only 15 percent were actually reported by residents.

We are ready to serve you fast and efficiently, but we need your help! You drive, walk and ride on our streets each day. Help us keep our roadways free of potholes; report them to 311 as soon as you find them! The more potholes you report, the more potholes we can repair.

Pothole Patrol Survey Results

To continue improvements to the Pothole Repair Program and as part of the Pothole Patrol educational campaign, a bilingual pre-survey intended to measure residents' knowledge of the pothole repair service was administered. A total of 4,687 survey responses were collected from March 6th through April 6th at various outreach events, social media, news media, and e-mails.

April 2018 Pothole Blitz Results
On average, TCI’s Pothole Patrol crews repair approximately 5,000 potholes each month. However, during the month of April crews staged a Pothole Blitz and set a goal of repairing 7,500 potholes - a 50% increase over the monthly average. The Pothole Patrol not only met their goal, they crushed it. They repaired 11,921 potholes in 20 workdays in April.

This is a record number of repairs for TCI. The Pothole Blitz was conducted in April, to proactively address the usual increase in potholes caused by late winter and early spring rains that contribute to asphalt breakdown.

To prepare for the blitz, staff utilized historical 311 data to identify known, high-distress areas throughout the city. The two highest-distress neighborhoods in each council district were selected to be proactively canvased by Field Investigators who identified more than 1,000 locations in need of repair across the city.

Pothole Patrol crews increased days worked from a four-day work week to a five-day work week, Monday through Friday ten (10) hours per day. Pothole Patrol crews were assigned two to three districts per week, with a focus on the neighborhoods pre-canvased by Field Investigators. Additionally, TCI worked with council district offices to coordinate efforts.

San Antonio Enters Stage II Watering Restrictions

San Antonio is in Stage 2 Watering Rules

Edwards Aquifer levels have continued to drop with the hot, dry weather, and San Antonio has entered Stage 2 Watering Rules.

Here's a little refresher on the Stage 2 Watering Rules

1.  Landscape watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler, or soaker hose is permitted only on your designated day between 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Watering days begin and end at midnight. Overnight watering is not allowed.
2.  Hand watering with a hose, drip irrigation, or a bucket is allowed any day, any time.
3.  Washing impervious cover (i.e., parking lots, driveways, streets, etc.) is prohibited.
4.  Water waste is prohibited at all times. Allowing water to run off into a gutter, ditch, drain, or failing to repair a controllable leak is considered water waste.
5.  Residential car washing is allowed on Saturday or Sunday as long as there is no water waste.
6.  Residential and indoor commercial fountains are permitted. Outdoor commercial fountains must have a variance in order to operate.
7.  Variances will be needed for new landscape installations.

Go online for more information on Stage Two Watering Rules

These rules will continue until there is an announcement in the newspaper that Stage 2 has been cancelled or Stage 3 is in effect. For watering recommendations and other timely tips, visit GardenStyleSA and you can contact us for a free irrigation system consultation. If you have questions, contact the SAWS Conservation Department at (210)704-SAVE (7283).
