Howdy Neighbors,

Thank y'all for making 2019 an outstanding year for District 10. It's been a pleasure to continue to serve you and address your needs. Your phone calls, emails, and office visits are instrumental to District 10 - you help us direct funding, identify long-neglected streets, connect you with City departments and so much more.

As we close out 2019, I'd like to acknowledge the successes of the District and San Antonio. In addition to our budget wins like the city-wide Homestead Tax Exemption and additional funding for street improvements, we can celebrate the following accomplishments:

· In January, we contributed to clearing our waterways of 19.78 tons of trash, 7.93 tons of metal and 561 tires through Basura Bash

· We discovered more about Hockley Cemetery, a historic African American Cemetery near Northern Hills, which will be the site of District 10's first ever DreamWeek event on January 11, 2020.

· In April, we hosted our annual District 10 Fiesta with State Representative Steve Allison and Commissioner Kevin Wolff. This event grows each year and we look forward to an even bigger turnout in 2020.

· We finally received funding to place 22 signs at all major roads entering the city acknowledging San Antonio as "Military City USA."

· We hosted our second Native American Heritage Month event and are eagerly anticipating the public art installation at Comanche Lookout Park to honor the history of the land and Native American peoples.

Our Neighborhood Engagement Team has logged thousands of individual calls this year about District 10 concerns and feedback. Thank you! We encourage you to keep calling to keep the data coming, so we can prioritize funding and resources.

This year certainly had interesting Council items to vote on, and we thank each and every one of you who called, wrote or participated in surveys to indicate how you wanted District 10 represented.

We hope you know how much we appreciate you coming to our District 10 Community Meetings and the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance as well. We also love stopping by your neighborhood meetings. If your neighborhood does not have a formal association in place, District 10 Staff can help walk you through the registration process. An organized neighborhood association is a great goal for the new decade. For those with a longstanding neighborhood association, thank you for continuing the work to ensure your neighborhoods stay connected and in the know.

You continue to make District 10 a great place to buy a home, start a business, raise a family and get involved. Your faith in your community is evident and we continue to be amazed by how wonderful our residents are. You are the real success story for District 10. We wish you the happiest of holidays and the safest of travels. Thank you again for making our jobs the best jobs in the world. Merry Christmas!

Holiday Closure

The District 10 Field Office will be closed from December 23 to January 6 in observance of the holiday season. Public safety and emergency services will remain in operation. San Antonio's 3-1-1 Call Center will be operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. December 26-31. For a list of other City services, click here.

Thanks for Coming to the District 10 Holiday Gathering!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the District 10 Holiday Gathering at Morgan's Wonderland. We had over 350 neighbors attend and collected hundreds of toys for SAPD's Blue Santa program - that's amazing! Guests enjoyed food and drinks from Rosemary's Catering, caricatures from CoolCats Caricatures, music and photo booth fun from DJ Vega's and Magic & Mentalism from James Arthur. The table arrangements and wreath giveaways were created by Party Creations' Minnie and Angel Rodriguez and the stage decorations were generously donated by Cecelia and Reggie Peña. We also want to thank MacArthur High School's JROTC for presenting the colors and for the beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and Texas Our Texas. Your dessert donations filled FOUR tables and thankfully y'all took them home so we weren't tempted to. As always, thank you to Gordon Hartman and his team for donating the event space at Morgan's Wonderland.

Deck Your Doors

Congratulations to all of the participants of our first ever Deck Your Doors competition. We were so impressed with everyone's creativity. The winners were announced at the District 10 Holiday Gathering and received prizes from The Barbecue Station, Kiolbassa Smoked Meats, Whataburger and the San Antonio Museum of Art. Two winners were chosen by our team of SAFFE officers and the third winner was chosen by popular vote at the Holiday Gathering. Congratulations to Linda Wiseman, Melinda Smallwood and Don and Anne Macaulay for bringing home 2019's top prizes. We can't wait to see what everyone comes up with next year!

Boards and Commissions Vacancies

Disability Access Advisory Committee: The Disability Access Advisory Committee is comprised of 11 members for two-year terms of office. To work closely with the Disability Access Office as part of San Antonio’s efforts to provide accessible services and facilities for citizens with disabilities. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 3:00 PM at the Lion’s Field Senior Center, 2809 Broadway. For more information, please click here.

Building Standards Board: The Building Standards Board is a citizen-based board and has 14 members appointed by City Council: two panels of seven members each. Appointed by the City Council with each City Council member appointing their own representative to the board. Members serve overlapping two-year terms and there is no limit on the number of terms that may be served. Each panel holds a hearing twice per month unless otherwise indicated. Meeting dates are the first and third Thursdays for Panel A, and the second and fourth Thursdays for Panel B. Meetings are held at the Cliff Morton Development and Business Services Center, located at 1901 S. Alamo St., at 9:00 a.m. Please contact the liaison for more information. San Antonio Early Childhood Education Municipal Development Corporation: The Pre-K 4 SA Board is comprised of 11 members serving staggered two-year terms of office. There is no limit to the number of terms that may be served. Representatives from Business and Education Communities. The mission is to provide strategic direction for Pre-K 4 SA to develop a highly-skilled workforce in one generation through quality early childhood education for all children in San Antonio. Meeting Schedule & Location: Unless otherwise posted, meetings are typically held on the first Tuesday of every month at 2:00 p.m. at a Pre-K 4 SA Education Center. San Antonio is NACTO's 6th Climate Challenge Accelerator City

On the heels of passing SA Climate Ready, San Antonio announced a partnership with NACTO through the American Cities Climate Challenge. Working with VIA Metropolitan Transit, San Antonio is tapping into the rich technical network offered at NACTO (the National Association of City Transportation Officials) to rapidly build out 2-3 high-quality transit corridors. Walkability assessment takes next step

New Braunfels Senior Planner Jean Drew crosses Main Plaza in New Braunfels

Through our Walkable Community Program, the MPO is working with the City of New Braunfels to assess walkability of its downtown. On December 11th, staff from both agencies walked routes around Main Plaza to collect photos and document challenges to walking and biking in the area. MPO staff will provide the City of New Braunfels with a report in early 2020 that captures input from the public and agency staff. Find out more.
