District 10 Newsflash
Brought to you by Councilman Clayton H. Perry

February 2020

Howdy Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance's Candidate Forum on February 17. I am always so impressed by the turnout at our monthly meetings. We also began live-streaming our Northeast Neighborhood Alliance and District 10 Community Meetings this month. The videos post to our Facebook page and are a great way to stay informed, even if you are unable to make it to the meeting.

The next District 10 Community Meeting is scheduled for March 16 at the Tool Yard. We'll be joined at this meeting by the new Aviation Director - Jesus Saenz, the Brighton Center, the NEISD Superintendent - Dr. Sean Maika and representatives from San Antonio's Department of Development Services and Code Compliance.
You won't want to miss this meeting - there is a chance to win tickets to the Spurs game on April 7!

The construction on the Harry Wurzbach Road and Austin Highway Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) will begin as early as March 2 and is estimated to conclude February 2022. Over the next four(+) weeks, Transportation and Capital improvements will work to mobilize and stage construction equipment, lane closures will begin on Harry Wurzbach Road and CPS and SAWS will begin utility work. To see a video of the proposed improvements, click here.

Primary Election Day is on Tuesday, March 3. To find a polling site near you or to review a sample ballot, click here. VIA will provide free rides to polling sites on Primary Election Day, all riders have to do is show their valid voter registration card. More information here.

The District 10 Office would like to attend your next HOA meeting. We would like to discuss ongoing community initiatives and resources that are available throughout San Antonio, such as neighborhood programs, current projects and public safety programs. If you would like to have the District 10 team visit your next meeting or would like useful information to distribute to your community, please email your request to District10@sanantonio.gov. Please provide a date, time, and point of contact to set up District 10 attending your next HOA meeting. We look forward to hearing from you!

As always, thank you for being active community members and leaders here in District 10. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of any assistance to you.

- Clayton

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Here are some examples of what Texas is doing to slow the potential spread of the virus into Texas and also to prepare for the possibility of community spread down the road.

·     Educating and informing state agencies, local leaders, schools, higher ed., and the public.
·     Daily calls with public health and emergency management and providers
·     Regular calls with local officials statewide
·     Maintaining the DSHS coronavirus page https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/
·     Providing direct briefings for hospitals, providers, and others
·     Performing surveillance to identify any COVID that may emerge in Texas.
·     Screening through front lines – doctors, nurses, hospitals
·     Screening and monitoring of incoming travelers identified through the CDC airport screenings
·     Identifying cases through lab testing (CDC)
·     Providing public health expertise and guidance on individual cases and situations for local jurisdictions and public health departments.
·     Creating and sharing guidance for public health, health care, EMS, etc, including through the DSHS Coronavirus page.
·     Readying the state for lab testing at the state and local level once the federal government releases laboratory kits to the states.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management and DSHS are working together with state agencies to ready for likely scenarios that could unfold in the coming months.  This effort is especially timely as the U.S. gains more firsthand experience with the virus.

There are things everyone can do to protect themselves, and they are largely the same precautions we urge people to take to prevent spread of the flu:

·     Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
·     Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
·     Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
·     Stay home when you are sick.
·     Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
