District 10 News

Brought to you by Councilman Clayton H. Perry

Howdy Neighbors,

Thank you to all who participated in the Mud Creek Greenway Community Meeting last week. If you were unable to join, please view the recorded meeting here. Please join us for the next District 10 Community Meeting on Monday, October 18, at 7 PM at the Tool Yard. Attend in-person or tune in virtually. Because the Tool Yard is a City facility, masks are required at the in-person meeting.

A proposed draft of projects for the 2022 bond program was presented at this week's City Council meeting, and I was disappointed to see that more of the $1.2 billion proposed wasn't allocated towards needed infrastructure projects across the community. City Staff is still determining the final list of bond projects that will be presented to the Citizen Bond Committees to analyze and make their recommendations to City Council in January. Once the list is vetted by the Citizen Bond Committees and approved by City Council, the final list will be made into propositions to be voted on by the entire community in May 2022. I will continue to advocate for more investments towards our roads and critical infrastructure needs in our District 10 neighborhoods and all across the city.

Do you have ideas for District 10? If so, the District 10 Team would like to attend your next HOA meeting. Please email District10@sanantonio.govwith the date, time, and point of contact to schedule our attendance at your next HOA meeting. I look forward to hearing from you!

As always, thank you for being active community members and leaders here in District 10. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we may be of any assistance to you. The District 10 team is on hand and available to address your needs and concerns.

Gold Star Monument

Ground-Breaking Ceremony

This coming Sunday, a groundbreaking ceremony for a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will take place at Veteran’s Memorial Plaza. A Gold Star Family is a title reserved for families of military members who died in the line of duty. This monument will honor Gold Star Families and the sacrifice their family member made for the nation.

The sole surviving Marine from World War II to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, Mr. Hershel “Woody” Williams, will be in attendance. The Woody Williams Foundation is the major force behind establishing Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments across the United States. The Foundation is responsible for establishing 88 such monuments -- not including the monument that will be constructed in Veteran’s Memorial Plaza.

Please join me in honoring the Gold Star families who have served and sacrificed.

When: October 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

"After a “decade of downtown,” City Manager Erik Walsh made sure San Antonio City Council members would see more money allocated for bond projects in their own districts. But after he and city staff presented their list of recommended projects Wednesday, council members said they wanted even more for their neighborhoods."

I visited the Petco Love K9 Center, the San Antonio campus for K9s For Warriors, the nation's largest provider of Service Dogs to veterans. K9s For Warriors is committed to rescuing dogs and ending veteran suicide. Learn about the great work K9s For Warriors does and how to volunteer or donate here.

"New Leash On Life: The K9s for Warriors Story" highlights the journeys of three United States veterans struggling to adapt to life back home. All three suffered from PTSD after returning from serving overseas, and each has found hope and new ways to handle their stress and emotional challenges through the aid of a companion dog. Throughout the documentary, Adam, Shilo and Louis recount their years of service and discuss the PTSD symptoms they faced while trying to re-acclimate to civilian life."

District 10 Newsflash

Brought to you by Councilman Clayton H. Perry

February 2021

Howdy Neighbors,

As many of you know, I was recently hospitalized with COVID-19. Thankfully, I am feeling much better and recovering from this illness at home. The District 10 Team shared all of your well wishes with me, and I want each of you to know that your kind words and offers to help meant the world to me. While the vaccine has shone a light at the end of the tunnel, it's important to remember that the pandemic is still ongoing. It is important to not let your guard down, even among close friends and family. We must stay vigilant, wear masks, wash your hands, and practice social distancing when possible.

Thank you to everyone who attended January's NNA meeting. The meeting agenda included briefings from Gordon Hartman and Allan Castro with Morgan Wonderland’s regarding their Multi Assistance Center, Dr. Junda Woo and Dr. Anita Kurian regarding the City’s local vaccine distribution, Syed Mehdi and Jon Van Woensel with an update on the San Antonio Airport Strategic Planning, and District 10’s report on current City issues. If you missed the meeting you can watch it on YouTube here.

February's District 10 Community Meeting will be on Monday, February 15, at 6PM. We'll be joined by Rick Aste - Director and CEO of the McNay, Commissioners DeBerry and Calvert, and Constable Mark Vojvodich. To register, click here.

As always, thank you for being active community members and leaders here in District 10. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of any assistance to you. The District 10 team is still on hand and available to address your needs and concerns throughout this time.

Community Highlight - District 10 Blood Drive

Thank you to everyone who participated in the District 10 Blood Drive in January and to Northern Hills United Methodist Church for opening their doors to us. Your willingness to donate blood helped save lives across South Texas. Your donation truly makes a difference. The demand for blood donors remains extremely urgent, with 500 donations a day needed to meet patient needs.

Due to the shortage, the Center is extending hours at the donor rooms at Shavano Park and the Donor Pavilion on IH 10, from Thursday to Saturday. Donors can make an appointment by visiting SouthTexasBlood.org or calling 210-731-5590. All South Texas Blood & Tissue Center donors in February will receive a $10 Amazon gift card, voucher for a 20-ounce smoothie of their choice from Smoothie King on Sundays, as well as points to redeem additional gift cards or merchandise. Blood donors also can give at the University Hospital Blood Donor Room, 4502 Medical Drive. To schedule an appointment with University Hospital, call 210-358-2812.
