Howdy Neighbors,
Last week over one hundred delegates from San Antonio
descended upon Washington, D.C. for the annual SA to DC trip. I was
joined on this trip by Mayor Ron Nirenberg, City Manager Sheryl
Sculley, and several of my council colleagues. Much of my time in
D.C. was spent advocating for our military here in San Antonio. As
Military City USA, it is San Antonio's responsibility to support,
serve, and promote the growth of our bases. I advocated for
Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), which has an estimated economic
impact on the San Antonio region of $49 billion annually and is the Department of Defense's only Level I
trauma center.
I've requested an After Action Report from organizations that
attended SA to DC 2018. These reports will allow a process for
analyzing what
happened, why
it happened, and how
it can be done better by the participants in the future
Our next District 10 Community Meeting will be held on
February 19th at the Tool Yard at 7:00 PM. We'll be
joined there by Dr. Brian Gottardy, Superintendent of NEISD,
representatives from the SA Food Bank, and Jean Latsha from
Pedcor. I'll also present information regarding the potential for
Homestead Tax Exemptions in San Antonio. I rely heavily on the
feedback of our neighbors, so please come and encourage others to
join you.
As a reminder, the Primary Election for State Representative
and Congress will take place on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018. This
election is important and will directly affect you! Early voting takes place
from Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 - Friday, March 2nd, 2018.
Check your county elections website for voting information
and locations.

Open Surveys
Here
in District 10, we're already looking "down the road" for
repairs and upgrades. We've been hard at work reviewing and tweaking
the 2018 street repair schedule, but we are always on the lookout for
the big projects that can truly transform District 10. We've started
a running list of future bond projects for consideration, but we need
your help in guiding us to what District 10 needs most. Please help
us determine what your priorities are for the future 2022- 2027 Bond
by completing this survey. It's not too early for us to
start this process at our level.

Basura Bash Registration is Now OPEN
Mark your calendars
for FEBRUARY
17, 2018 and join us at the Robert L. B.
Tobin Park Trailhead to clean up the Salado Creek area.
We
will need approximately 200 volunteers to sign up this year. If you
are interested in participating as an individual or team, click here.
Please provide
as accurate of a headcount as possible for group registrations. Our
registration closes when we hit 200 volunteers; if you overestimate,
we may be shorthanded on the day of the event.

Let's Rodeo, San Antonio
The San Antonio Rodeo is giving you all a
chance to come out and rodeo on opening day, Thursday, February 8th.
Present this at any gate for one grounds admission.

Flames Grand Opening
Flames
opened last month in District 10 and is definitely worth a visit for
lunch, dinner, or dessert. We stopped by their Grand Opening and were
impressed with the hospitality and the Baked Alaska. Flames is
located at 3131 Nacogdoches Rd, stop
by and welcome them to the neighborhood.

2018 C.O.P Schedule
Northeast substation Citizens on Patrol classes are 1-time, 4-hr
classes. Please bring a photo ID when attending. All
necessary applications will be filled out at the beginning of each
class and photos will be taken for a complimentary COP ID card.

Celebrating the City's
Tricentennial
The San Antonio Tricentennial
celebration continues with more featured events commemorating San
Antonio's storied history. Residents and visitors can explore the
official events calendar and sort events by day, time, council
district or county precinct. The official Tricentennial magazine features
a complete listing of events through the end of the year. The
magazine is available for free at H-E-B stores and Jim's Restaurants
throughout the city.

VITA Free Tax Preparation
VITA is a free tax preparation
service for individuals and families who earn up to $60,000 per year.
All tax-preparers are IRS-trained and certified. The District 10 VITA
site is located at Thousand Oaks Library. All VITA
sites are open through April 17th, 2018.

San Antonio Humane Society
We had an opportunity to meet
with the San Antonio Humane Society recently. They are currently
in the middle of the El Rey Fido Fundraising Competition.
If you're unfamiliar with it,
the El Rey Fido Fundraising Competition is a fundraising campaign
that takes place in the months leading up to Fiesta! Each year,
participating canines compete to join the El Rey Fido Royal Court,
with the top-fundraising dog being crowned El Rey Fido. All funds raised
by each participant goes back towards helping the animals at the San
Antonio Humane Society. The El Rey Fido Coronation, an official
Fiesta event, is held annually to recognize and honor El Rey Fido and
the Royal Court members' efforts to raise funds and awareness for the
pets at the San Antonio Humane Society.
