District 10 Newsflash Brought to you by Councilman Clayton H. Perry     February 2021   Howdy Neighbors,   As many of you know, I was recently hospitalized with COVID-19. Thankfully, I am feeling much better and recovering from this illness at home. The District 10 Team shared all of your well wishes with me, and I want each of you to know that your kind words and offers to help meant the world to me. While the vaccine has shone a light at the end of the tunnel, it's important to remember that the pandemic is still ongoing. It is important to not let your guard down, even among close friends and family. We must stay vigilant, wear masks, wash your hands, and practice social distancing when possible.   Thank you to everyone who attended January's NNA meeting. The meeting agenda included briefings from Gordon Hartman and Allan Castro with Morgan Wonderland’s regarding their Multi Assistance Center, Dr. Junda Woo and Dr. Anita Kurian regarding the City’s local vaccine distribution, Syed Mehdi and Jon Van Woensel with an update on the San Antonio Airport Strategic Planning, and District 10’s report on current City issues. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of any assistance to you. The District 10 team is still on hand and available to address your needs and concerns throughout this time.   - Clayton   Community Highlight - District 10 Blood Drive   Thank you to everyone who participated in the District 10 Blood Drive in January and to Northern Hills United Methodist Church for opening their doors to us. Your willingness to donate blood helped save lives across South Texas. Your donation truly makes a difference. The demand for blood donors remains extremely urgent, with 500 donations a day needed to meet patient needs.   Due to the shortage, the Center is extending hours at the donor rooms at Shavano Park and the Donor Pavilion on IH 10, from Thursday to Saturday. Donors can make an appointment by visiting SouthTexasBlood.org or calling 210-731-5590. All South Texas Blood & Tissue Center donors in February will receive a $10 Amazon gift card, voucher for a 20-ounce smoothie of their choice from Smoothie King on Sundays, as well as points to redeem additional gift cards or merchandise. Blood donors also can give at the University Hospital Blood Donor Room, 4502 Medical Drive. To schedule an appointment with University Hospital, call 210-358-2812.      Seeking Applicants - Rate Advisory Committee The San Antonio community is invited to participate in a new Rate Advisory Committee (RAC) that CPS Energy is forming this year. CPS Energy is now accepting applications from residents who are eligible to serve. The RAC’s mission is to provide helpful and unique knowledge and customer insights to the utility’s efforts and projects related to rate structure and rate design with the ultimate goals of helping management balance its Guiding Pillars and increasing the mutual understanding of public issues and concerns. CPS Energy bases business decisions on the Guiding Pillars of Reliability, Customer Affordability, Security, Safety, Environmental Responsibility and Resiliency with a foundation of Financial Responsibility. The Rate Advisory Committee will also be guided by these same pillars.   The Committee will be made up of 21 members comprised of 11 appointees by the CPS Energy Board of Trustees, including Mayoral appointees and 10 City Council appointees. Members of the community who qualify and are interested in serving on the Rate Advisory Committee can apply at cpsenergy.com/rac. Interested persons can visit the website for more information, an online application package which includes a description of the role and qualifications. Hard copies of the application package can be obtained by visiting any of CPS Energy's walk-in centers, the City of San Antonio’s City Clerk’s office or by calling (210) 353-6788.   Applications are due by February 26.     Virtual Meetings to Discuss SAT Strategic Development Plan The San Antonio Airport System (SAAS) is hosting a series of Strategic Development Plan virtual meetings to recap the progress to date and to update the community on the status of the airport planning alternatives being considered to accommodate growth at San Antonio International Airport over the next 20 years.     Three identical virtual meetings will be held next week for community members, including two meetings in English and one meeting in Spanish. The meetings will be held on Tuesday, February 9 at 2pm and 6pm in English and on Thursday, February 11 at 5:30pm in Spanish. The deadline to register for these events is Monday, February 8 at 5pm.   Participants are invited to submit questions prior to the meeting and the responses will be discussed during the virtual meeting. District 10 Newsflash Brought to you by Councilman Clayton H. Perry     October 23, 2020   Howdy Neighbors,   We hosted our monthly virtual District 10 Community Meeting on Monday, October 19. We were be joined by CPS Energy CEO, Paula Gold-Williams, City of San Antonio's Aviation Director, Jesus Saenz, and Impact San Antonio's President, Jennifer Bennet, and Co-Chair of Grant Oversight and Outcomes, Audrey Laird. Thank you to everyone who participated in this meeting - we appreciate you standing by us as we navigate this virtual world. In the description, we've also included the questions that were asked by y'all and answered by our presenters.   As many of you know, there is a very important election on November 3, for issues that will have an impact both nationally and locally. Early voting began on Tuesday, October 13 and ends on Friday, October 30. Again, election day is Tuesday, November 3. If you are planning to vote by mail, please do so as early as possible to give your ballot ample time to be counted. To view a sample ballot and voters' guide, please go to vote411.org. There you will find a non-partisan pro/con guide to each candidate and proposition. Due to the ongoing health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, the workshops will be conducted virtually through an internet-based meeting platform, which will include a teleconference option. Spanish translation will be available. The first conversation is entitled People + Place = Vacant Building Program and features an in-depth look at the people-centered approach of the Vacant Building Program (VBP). The discussion happens on Thursday, November 5th at 5:00pm and registration information can be found at http://tiny.cc/vpbwebex.   This in-depth conversation will cover the purpose of the program, where it applies, how it is structured, and how it is executed. Additionally, the discussion will communicate the enforcement actions associated with non-compliance and advice for owners on how to stay in compliance. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions before and during the session for VBP staff to address. The VBP covers nearly 25% of San Antonio and works in support of other previously-established areas like Neighborhood Conservation Districts and City-initiated Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones—the VBP is not only in historic districts.   The main audience is individuals that are owners of single-family properties—whether vacant or occupied. We want vacant property owners to understand their obligation under the program, how to be exempt from the program, and neighbors of vacant properties to understand the holistic approach we take and our goal of helping to strengthen San Antonio neighborhoods.   Community Spotlight   These neighbors came together and used Nextdoor for good! Neighbors from Wilshire Terrace, Oak Park Northwood, East Terrell Hills and more came together to collect garbage between Harry Wurzbach and Eisenhauer and Corrine - clearing parts of both District 10 and District 2 - over the last six weeks. All told they've put in over fifty hours of work and collected one hundred twenty bags of garbage.
